Use case scenarios

Here are a few examples of how Geneos can fit into different situations to meet your business needs.

Alerts and notifications Copied

We can’t spot potential problems and are always reacting to issues.

Managing a vast and ever-changing IT infrastructure while quickly identifying and resolving system issues can be a daunting challenge. However, with Geneos, this challenge can be addressed. By configuring Geneos to alert you at the first sign of trouble, you can resolve issues before they disrupt your operations. Geneos offers proactive monitoring allowing you to be a step ahead, receiving alerts via email, Slack or Microsoft Teams, depending on your preference.

Flexible plugins Copied

We’re bombarded with information and have too many tools to navigate.

Data can be overwhelming, and truthfully, not all of it needs processing. Geneos utilized various plugins and integrations for targeted data monitoring. While these tools come pre-configured, they offer flexibility for further customization, allowing you to refine data collection and monitoring to your specific needs. Geneos grants you the freedom to concentrate solely on the crucial aspects that demand attention.

For more information, see Plugins and Integrations.

Integration using APIs Copied

I prefer using APIs to connect to my servers and monitor our data from there.

Geneos can connect, exchange data, and communicate with external monitoring tools using open APIs. These APIs utilize established standards and protocols, making it easier for other systems to interact with Geneos. As a result, this makes it easier for these systems to automate jobs. For instance, upon detecting a problem, Geneos can initiate the automatic creation of an incident ticket, designate it to a certain team, and keep track of the progress until the problem is fixed.

Customizable dashboards Copied

Our team only wants to see data that are relevant to us.

With Geneos, you can easily combine important business indicators into dashboards based on your specific business needs. This allows you to display only the metrics and data relevant to your goals, so you can focus on what matters most to your operations. For instance, you can create specialized dashboards to monitor CPU utilization. You can also modify your dashboards as new information becomes available or as your needs change. Such flexibility allows you to make informed decisions and strategic adjustments if the need arises. In addition to being highly customized, dashboards may also be shared across your team to increase visibility, transparency, and collaboration.

Automating operations Copied

Our systems need to be shut down Friday after shift and rebooted every Sunday night. We want this automated.

In your organization, some technologies require scheduled reboots, while others may need immediate restoration. Constantly monitoring these situations 24/7 is not efficient in the long term. Geneos can handle this in your behalf. It allows you to perform an action for a specific period time without needing to manually check your system every now and then. For example, trading links which must be kept operational during trading hours can often be taken down for maintenance during off hours. You can use Geneos to define a rule specifying that no alerts are sent out during the scheduled maintenance window.

For more information, see Active Times.
