How gateway update the configured xml file?

Question Copied

When updating and saving an XML file within the Gateway Setup Editor (GSE), how does the process work behind the scenes? Specifically, how does the GSE locate the original file on the gateway server, perform the update/save operation, and determine when to create a backup of the old file?

Answer Copied

By default, the gateway looks for the setup XML file in the gateway working directory unless you specify a different location when you start the gateway.

In terms of backup copies, the gateway saves 10 backup copies of the XML file by default when making changes through the Gateway Setup Editor. You can change the number of backup files that the gateway creates when receiving setup changes via Gateway Setup Editor under the Operating environment -> History files. Valid values are in the inclusive range 0 to 9999.

The Gateway Setup Editor allows the Gateway setup to be edited, and for the changes to be passed to the Gateway. Since the configuration is schema-based, it allows for a high degree of validation and error checking. You can also update the XML manually outside of the GSE, but you will lose all the assistance it provides in building the correct XML.
