Dashboards
Use the Dashboards app to view visualizations and track metrics from a single or several entities. When you click on a widget or a panel in the dashboard, you can see more information.
On the Dashboards app, you can:
- See a list of all available dashboards.
- Create, import, or delete dashboards.
- Select to view a dashboard and its widgets.
You can also create visualizations using Grafana.
Create a dashboard Copied
To create a new dashboard:
- On the main page of the Dashboards app, click New. This opens the New dashboard window.
- Click to change the general settings.
- On the Dashboard name field, set the file name for the dashboard.
- On the Folder field, select which folder the dashboard will be saved in.
- To make the dashboard accessible to anyone in your organisation, tick the Is public? checkbox.
- To enable future changes to the dashboard, tick the Editable by default checkbox.
- Add panels to the dashboard. For details, see Add panels or widgets to a dashboard.
- Click Save.
Add panels or widgets to a dashboard Copied
You can add a customizable panel or widget to your dashboard.
- While creating a new dashboard, click Add panel.
- Click to select how you want the data to be presented visually. For details, see Work with charts.
- Under Queries, set the query parameters for the data type. For details, see Use query filters.
- Under Rendering settings, you can provide the panel name, specify the format, choose the chart type and layout, and more.
- Click Done.
Repeat the steps to add more panels to the dashboard.
Use query filters Copied
You can filter data to quickly find what you are interested in.
- Under Data type, select whether to use Metrics or Logs.
- Depending on the data type, you can:

Logs | In the From field, select an attribute or dimension name and set conditions for your query. You will see a prompt to start the expression with { , followed by a list of available values. For more details, see Expressions. |
- When needed, add another query by clicking . You can have both metrics and logs shown in the visualization.
Work with charts Copied
Charts convey a large amount of raw data and turn it into easy-to-understand visualization. You can change between these chart styles by clicking :

Chart style | Description |

Graph | Present data into commonly used charts (line chart by default). |
Histogram | Depict frequency distributions in bars of different lengths. |
Timeline | Plot data in a series of events. |

Note: Aside from charts, there are several other visualization styles for representing your data, such as KPI, Gauge, or Table.
You can change further customise how your charts look under General Settings.

Create a dashboard from the Explore tab Copied
Use the Explore tab as your starting point for searching and viewing data as well as trying out visualizations. If you want to save your work, you can also create a dashboard straight from the Explore tab.
- On the Explore tab, set the parameters for your query, including options for visualization and general settings. Query parameters are set using an Expression.
- Click Save. This will open a new dashboard.
- Click Save.
- When prompted, provide the dashboard name and then click Save.
Import a dashboard Copied
To import an existing dashboard:
- On the main page of the Dashboards app, click Import. This opens your file viewer.
- Select a compatible dashboard file to import.
Alternatively, you can drag and drop the dashboard file from your local machine into any folder in the Dashboards app.
When a dashboard file is imported successfully, the file is uploaded to Obcerv and the Created by field is assigned to the current user.
Share dashboard panels Copied
Share any panel of dashboards you created or those that are publicly accessible to other users in your organisation.
- While viewing a dashboard, click beside the panel or widget that you want to share.
- Click Share. The URL to the dashboard panel will be copied to your clipboard.
- Send the link to other users so that they can view the dashboard panel.
Manage dashboards Copied
On the main page of the Dashboards app, click beside each dashboard to see options such as exporting, copying, moving, or deleting it.
Permissions Copied
Users with Operator roles can only edit and delete dashboards they created.
Users with administrator roles can manage any dashboard.
View dashboards Copied
On the main page of the Dashboards app, click on a listed dashboard to open it. When viewing a dashboard, you will see widgets or panels that have been added to it. Each panel visualizes data from one metric and can be further configured.
