How to ensure the samplers and rule are using the active times
Problem Copied
Having gateways managing servers in different time zones. And need to be able to ensure that every sampler and rule is using the active time on the servers being managed and not the active times on the gateway server.
Possible Solution(s) Copied
Associating the time zones with active times:
- In the advanced tab of the Active times folder, enable gateway-controlled sampler active times. See the detailed explanation of this flag at the bottom of the notes.
- Specify the time zone required on your active times and reference it with your samplers and gateway rules.
- The gateway and netprobes have to be running near the production binaries as this is only supported on more recent schemas, otherwise, you would see an error in the gateway complaining to older netprobes that active time is not supported.
Additional Information Copied
Basically, the netprobe is not aware of time zones. By enabling the gateway to control active times of sampling, the gateway can also associate time zones with the active times. So as long as your server is running an active time with (your preferred server) timezone defined, then the rules you want to run on the gateway just need to reference the same active time with (your preferred server) timezone.
Notes on gateway-controlled sampler active times: “By default, the netprobe controls the operation of active times assigned to samplers. When this flag is enabled, the control will be shifted to the gateway, resulting in the gateway messaging the netprobe as and when relevant active times are entered and exited.
Enabling the flag allows active times assigned to samplers to have timezones specified, as well as use second-level resolution.
One side effect of enabling this feature is that unless the timezone is explicitly specified in the active time definition, the sampler active times will work according to the timezone on the gateway host. If this feature is not enabled, the sampler active times will work according to the time on the netprobe host.”
