What can cause Netprobes to go in suspended mode by the Gateway?

There is a Data Quality feature in the Gateway where temporary suspension is being triggered when the rate of data input exceeds the rate of processing the gateway can perform. The Gateway log will contain entries for each netprobe suspension, including how long stale data has occurred and its load contribution to the gateway at the time. See examples below: <Thu Oct 24 04:54:06> WARN: Orb-QueueMonitor Detected stale data 79459ms old, above threshold of 77000ms. <Thu Oct 24 04:54:06> INFO: Orb-QueueMonitor Gateway load is 97.39% from this connection, of all queue input data. <Thu Oct 24 04:54:06> INFO: Orb-QueueMonitor Busiest input of connection is 98.72% of total; Bdo 189 : DataView1 : EMS Topic Monitoring NYK, (Plugin=API, View=EMS Topic Monitoring NYK) <Thu Oct 24 04:54:06> INFO: Translator::SuspendedConnections Suspending connection 5 (TRULAPP0056:2773) for 300 seconds. <Thu Oct 24 04:57:06> INFO: Translator::SuspendedConnections Resuming previously suspended connection 17 (HKGRS00335:2773). <Thu Oct 24 04:58:11> WARN: Orb-QueueMonitor Detected stale data 270736ms old, above threshold of 77000ms. <Thu Oct 24 04:58:11> INFO: Orb-QueueMonitor Gateway load is 98.90% from this connection, of all queue input data. <Thu Oct 24 04:58:11> INFO: Orb-QueueMonitor Busiest input of connection is 99.69% of total; Bdo 176 : DataView1 : EMS Topic Monitoring HKG, (Plugin=API, View=EMS Topic Monitoring HKG) <Thu Oct 24 04:58:11> INFO: Translator::SuspendedConnections Suspending connection 16 (HKGRS00334:2773) for 300 seconds. <Thu Oct 24 04:58:22> INFO: ProbeManager Netprobe hkgrs00334_2773 (HKGRS00334:2773) Suspended By default, this is a feature in the Gateway when there is data queued from a NetProbe that has not been processed by a specific dataview in 77 seconds.

Should we have the alert in this case when the probe connection state turns to “Suspended”? Copied

When a probe is suspended, the data item icon will display a warning sign containing the “Pause” sign in Active Console 2. These icons will be visible in the entities view, probes view, state tree and list-views containing these data items.

Can we disable this feature of auto suspension? How? Copied

The “disableChecks” setting in the gateway setup Operating Environment > Data Quality section will (if activated) disable the data quality algorithm. When the algorithm is disabled no Netprobes will be suspended, although data quality metrics will still be generated.

Is it advisable to do so? Copied

In summary no, for a detailed overview see this article on managing load as to why. The defaults which you may have set have data queued from the Netprobe that has not been processed by a specific Dataview. The Data Quality settings may be found under the Operating Environment > Data Quality tab in the Gateway Setup Editor. For a guide on what configuration would fit your environment setup, you may refer to Geneos Data Quality documentation. You should also review the article on managing load in Geneos.
