These are the highlights of this release:

• Improved Gateway publishing to ITRS Analytics

  Various improvements have been implemented, including improved logging, enhanced publishing throughput, and updated ITRS Analytics publishing queue defaults. For more information, see ITRS Analytics Connection - Advanced configuration.

• Enhanced Kubernetes and VMware Collection Agent plugins

  • The Kubernetes Collection Agent plugin now supports log reading via the Kubernetes API. This allows users to remotely aggregate log data without needing to run the agent on the node. For more information, see the Kubernetes Collection Agent documentation.
  • The VMware Collection Agent plugin can now monitor events from vSphere, allowing you to receive alerts on common events like task events and session events. For more information, see the VMware Collection Agent documentation.

• Web Server (Web Dashboard) Helm chart

  A Helm chart is now available as an installation option for the Web Dashboard, making it easier to deploy in Kubernetes environments. For more information, see Web Dashboard deployments.

• Active Console binary without Java

  An Active Console binary packaged without Java is now available for Windows if you wish to run the Active Console using the Java installed on your machine. This is useful if you are required to standardize the use of specific Java versions for security and compliance. For more information, see Active Console Without Java.

• Updated Geneos PCRE library

  The Geneos PCRE library has been upgraded to PCRE2 10.44 for improved regular expression handling. For more information, see the FKM documentation.

• Other improvements

  • Several improvements and bug fixes across components and plugins.
  • Multiple updates to address security vulnerabilities.

Geneos 7.2.x Copied

These are the highlights of this release:

• Geneos 7.2.0 Netprobe now supports AArch64 (ARM) architecture

  All plugins have been tested for compatibility with AArch64 architecture. For the complete list of supported plugins, see the Netprobe plugin Compatibility Matrix.

• New FKM plugin features

  • A Data persistence feature is now available in the FKM plugin that can maintain file monitoring and preserve triggers across Netprobe restarts, non-FKM configuration updates, and Gateway switches. For more information, see the FKM plugin Data persistence documentation.
  • A new column has also been added in the plugin which provides real-time insight into unprocessed data, allowing users to monitor and address lagging issues promptly as they arise.

• Web Server (Web Dashboard) Docker image

  Web Dashboard is now available as a Docker image and can be used as a docker container. For more information see Webserver configuration.

• Updated Java support for Geneos components

  Active Console and Web Server (Web Dashboard) now requires Java version 17 as its minimum Java version.

• Other improvements

  • Several improvements and bug fixes for components and plugins.
  • Multiple updates to address security vulnerabilities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• New MarketsIO Collection Agent plugin

  The MarketsIO Collection Agent plugin monitors MarketsIO entities by reading from its shared memory. For more information, see the MarketsIO Collection Agent plugin documentation.

• New VMware Collection Agent plugin

  The VMware Collection Agent plugin monitors metrics from VMware vSpheres through the VMwareCollector collector. This collector monitors metrics of managed entity types such as HostSystem or VirtualMachine. For more information, see the VMware Collection Agent plugin documentation.

• Generate monitoring reports in the Gateway

  A new command is now available in the Gateway which generates a detailed report of what the Gateway is currently monitoring. The report can be created in JSON or YAML format, wherein the JSON file can easily be converted into an Excel workbook using the provided python script. For more information, see the monitoring report documentation.

• Updated Java support for Geneos components

  Java support for the following Geneos components has been updated:

  • The Collection Agent and all Collection Agent plugins have been upgraded to version 5.0.0 and now require Java 21 as the minimum Java version.
  • The Netprobe now supports Java 21.
  • The SSO Agent now supports Java 17 and Java 21.

• Other improvements

  • Several usability improvements have been made to the Active Dashboard.
  • Multiple updates to address security vulnerabilities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• An observability platform

  Geneos now includes data storage and analytics capabilities that provide intelligence to deliver end-to-end observability across an enterprise. Together with Gateways, Obcerv is now a core part of the Geneos backend as we modernise the product architecture. There are many new features and functionalities available in Geneos that require the installation of Obcerv. Obcerv also provides the foundations to deliver a scalable Geneos architecture on industry-standard infrastructure.

  Obcerv operates on the Kubernetes container orchestration platform and supports multiple installation options. You can install Obcerv on standard Kubernetes services or managed services such as Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, Google GKE, and Red Hat OpenShift.

  For users who do not have Kubernetes, ITRS offers the option to install Obcerv directly onto virtual machines without requiring a dedicated Kubernetes cluster. ITRS plans to release this functionality in a later version of 7.x, without the need for ITRS assistance.

• Entity Viewer App: a new web-based user interface for Geneos

  The Entity Viewer app (accessed via the Web Console) provides a web-based interface for real-time monitoring, investigation, and analysis of Geneos entities. Its customizable view lets you group, filter, and navigate from a high-level overview to a more detailed view of entities, all within a single intuitive interface.

  • Easily accessible and shareable via browser
  • Metrics, events and logs together in one interface with instant history
  • Familiar concepts like state tree navigation and dataview for metrics
  • Ability to trigger commands to take actions

• AWS CloudWatch Metric Stream for near real-time metric collection

  The AWS plugin now supports receiving data from CloudWatch Metric Stream via AWS Firehose. You can set up CloudWatch Metric Streams to publish all metrics or a filtered list of metrics. This streaming data pipeline allows you to monitor the AWS services in near real-time so you are alerted to any issues before they impact your business. • Other improvements

  • The Kubernetes plugin now supports cAdvisor metrics related to throttling and out of memory events for both pods and containers. This helps identify resource constraints to optimise performance and resource utilisation.
  • The Azure plugin now supports password-less connection to Azure Event Hub for more secure connectivity.
  • Several usability improvements have been made to the Active Dashboard.
  • Multiple updates to address security vulnerabilities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• New Remote RTDS plugin

  The Remote RTDS plugin monitors LSEG (Refinitiv) Real-Time Distributed System’s components, like RTC, ADS, and ADH. The plugin connects to the RTDS components’ REST API to obtain the data to be published as datapoints. This is useful in container deployment of RTDS components where shared memory segments may not be accessible. For more information, see the Remote RTDS plugin documentation.

• Collect logs and events from Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  Adding to the metric collection capabilities, the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) plugin now supports collecting logs and events through the Google Pub/Sub data integration pipeline.

• Other improvements

  • The Kubernetes plugin now supports label selectors for namespace filters. This minimizes configuration and allows for more dynamic monitoring configuration.
  • Gateway-Forecaster plugin is now a fully supported feature.
  • Improved Gateway Obcerv publishing to include useful attributes.
  • Several usability improvements have been made to the Active Dashboard.
  • Multiple updates to address security vulnerabilities.
  • Implemented several updates to Docker images.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Obcerv Time Series for Dynamic Thresholds

  Gateway can now obtain Seasonal Time Series data from Obcerv. This data can be used to create dynamic thresholds in Gateway alerting rules that can better adapt to daily and weekly trends. This helps reduce alert noise by minimising the use of static thresholds.

  Simple configuration and dynamic queries make it easier to use aggregation functions like count, min, max, average, percentiles, and more to create dynamic thresholds that can adjust to a daily or weekly seasonal trend. The same aggregation functions are also available to be used in dataviews to create new derived metrics and visualise them in Active Charts alongside the real-time metrics.

• Pilot feature: Gateway Forecaster

  The Obcerv Forecaster app creates forecasts based on historical usage of a metric to predict when a threshold is likely to be breached. Gateway can now query forecasts created in Obcerv and make that data available in order to alert on predicted breaches of a threshold. Note that this is available as a pilot feature for this release.

• Auto refresh of connection files

  Active Console now supports auto refresh of Gateway connection files. This means the Gateway connections in the Active Console workspace are automatically updated for everyone without needing to manually trigger the update.

• Other improvements

  • The Disk plugin now contains a new column named Device that indicates the location of the partition mount point source.
  • The FIX Analyser 2 plugin now supports External Password for database settings.
  • The Corvil plugin now supports version 2 of the Corvil API.
  • The MDM plugin’s Refinitiv RTO Feed Adapter now supports version 2 authentication.
  • Added AWS plugin metrics for Elasticache and ECS-managed scaling.
  • Updated Helm deployment to align with Kubernetes pod security standards.
  • Collection Agent can now be deployed as a proxy to forward data to an Obcerv instance
  • A number of changes have been made to the Network plugin to provide consistent naming. This is a breaking change; see Geneos Upgrade Notes for more information.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Enhanced Google Cloud Platform (GCP) plugin
  This release introduces monitoring capabilities for 10 additional Google Cloud Platform services, including apigateway, bigquery, bigtable, pub/sub, trafficdirector, and more. This enhancement complements the existing supported infrastructure services such as compute, networking, storage, vpn, loadbalancing, among others. • Enhanced MongoDB plugin
  MongoDB plugin now supports monitoring replica set deployments of the MongoDB databases. MongoDB plugin can now collect vital metrics such as replication lag, replication member health, and more. With support for DNS based SRV connection format, MongoDB plugin now automatically discovers changes to deployments without configuration change.

• Other improvements

  • Licence Daemon can now write summary and detailed reports to local file system. This makes it simpler to review and audit licence usage without the need to run Geneos Licence Auditor tool.
  • Added Java 17 support for Netprobe and Collection Agent. Collection Agent version 4.x now requires a minimum of Java 17.
  • Active Console now supports OpenID Connect (OIDC) for SSO logins.

These are the highlights of this release:

• MongoDB plugin now supports monitoring of replica set deployments with key metrics such as replication lags and the status of each member.
• Azure and AWS plugins now include updated metrics, attributes, aggregations and units.
• Several improvements have been made to the Dynamic Entity feature, including optimizations to effectively manage large number of updates.
• Various security related improvements:
  • Secure TLS connectivity between File Agent and Fix Analyser Netprobe.

These are the highlights of this release:

• New Google Cloud Platform Collection Agent plugin
  • In an increasingly multi-cloud deployment strategy across our users, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) has become a popular choice for many users. Alongside AWS and Azure, we are pleased to introduce the new plugin that allows comprehensive monitoring for your Google Cloud platform. The GCP plugin can monitor over 15 services including compute, networking, databases and more. This is the first iteration of the GCP plugin with more enhancements planned to give you an end-to-end visibility into your hybrid and multi-cloud environments. • New MongoDB plugin
  • MongoDB is a database technology known for its scalability and ability to handle large amounts of data. The new MongoDB Collection Agent plugin allows you to monitor data in your MongoDB database environment, including concurrent transactions, server instance metrics, and database statistics. • Other improvements:
  • HashiCorp password vault now supports TLS certificate-based authentication for more secure retrieval of centrally managed passwords.
  • Improved Gateway performance when managing large number of dynamic entities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• New JDBC plugin
  • JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) remains a popular technology for client connectivity to many relational databases. The new JDBC plugin can execute SQL queries via JDBC API to collect database data. While MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Oracle are supported out of the box, other JDBC compatible databases are also supported via user provided JDBC drivers, allowing for wide range of database monitoring capabilities. • Pilot Feature: State Only Active Console
  • A new streamlined version of the Active Console called State Only Active Console is now available as a pilot feature in the Active Console download package. This version of the Active Console is designed for high-level status views of large numbers of connected Gateways. It is a more lightweight alternative that does not require the retrieval of cell and headline data at all times, reducing overhead and allowing for more Gateway connections. However, it does not support some features, such as Active Dashboard. For more information, see the State Only Active Console documentation.
  • Other improvements:
  • Improved the performance of Azure plugin.
  • Gateway helm chart now supports custom configuration management.
  • Improved Gateway to Obcerv connectivity.
  • Various updates to fix a number of security vulnerabilities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Gateway configuration files can now be stored centrally in Obcerv. This simplifies the process for configuring Geneos as it removes the need to deal with storing and governing externally hosted Gateway configuration files.
• Obcerv now supports Single Sign On functionality for Geneos components. Obcerv installation includes Keycloak for identity management and access control. Geneos components such as Gateway, Active Console, and Web Dashboard can now integrate with Obcerv Keycloak for authentication and authorization. This is an alternative to the stand alone SSO Agent used in typical Geneos installations.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Active Console now supports Follow Selection mode for State Tree. This means the State Tree will automatically expand to select and identify items selected elsewhere in the Active Console. This makes it easier to find items in your State Tree without needing to search through a large number of items.
• Support integration with HashiCorp Password Vault that allows you to manage passwords in the Gateway configuration.
• Netprobe Helm Chart now supports additional configuration options.

These are the highlights of this release:

• New Fluentd plugin to aggregate log data. Fluentd is an open-source highly scalable log event data collector. Similar to Prometheus for metrics, Fluentd has become a popular choice of tool for log collection and aggregation in container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and OpenShift. The new Fluentd plugin allows you to receive logs directly from Fluentd so you don’t have to deploy additional toolsets to aggregate log data for monitoring. The plugin supports inbound Fluentd protocol messages over secure TCP connection. The inbound messages are dynamically organised into streams of log data for monitoring using popular plugins like File Keyword Monitor and State Tracker. Geneos can also publish that data onwards to ITRS Obcerv platform, Splunk, or Elasticsearch for log search and analysis.
• Monitoring Kubernetes control plane components with Prometheus plugin. The Prometheus plugin is now enhanced to support collecting metrics from Kubernetes endpoints such as the control plane components. The key to providing a scalable, fault-tolerant, highly available Kubernetes service are the control plane components of Kubernetes such as the scheduler, etcd, api-server, and control-manager. In order to maintain a healthy Kubernetes cluster, monitoring these components is crucial. These components can expose internal performance metrics using Prometheus format. The Prometheus plugin can scrape the metric endpoints exposed by these components directly, without the need to install Prometheus server to aggregate this data.
• Other improvements:
  • AWS plugin now supports monitoring custom namespaces (custom metrics), EC2 network interfaces and security groups. The plugin configuration is also updated to allow a single collector (plugin) to monitor multiple regions to minimise configuration.
  • Gateway publishing now supports exclude filter when publishing data to other systems like ITRS Obcerv, Kafka and generic Http endpoints. This gives more control over the data published to other systems, helping to minimise downstream data requirements.
  • Market Data Monitoring (MDM) plugin now includes a new feed adapter for connecting to Refinitiv’s Real Time Optimized data feed accessible via the cloud. This is available as pilot feature in this release.
  • SQL-Toolkit plugin for SAP ASE (Sybase) now support Kerberos authentication.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Ingest OpenTelemetry data for complete observability is an open, vendor-neutral toolset, and standard for instrumenting your applications and services. With the increased use of highly distributed microservice architectures, has become a popular standard for collecting observability data. We are excited to introduce the new plugin supporting the Protocol (OTLP) for collecting metrics, logs, and traces (partially supported). This gives you full-stack monitoring of your systems and applications alongside your other monitoring using the extensive range of plugins in Geneos. While metrics and logs are fully supported, we currently extract important metrics from the trace data. We intend to fully support trace data in future releases. Geneos can be configured to dynamically create the monitoring entities and data structures so your monitoring can automatically scale with your application deployment.
• Improved visibility and management of Geneos and its plugins, first introduced in 5.x, gather data points (metrics, logs, and events) and report them to Geneos Netprobe. Collection Agent can be deployed alongside Netprobes and managed by Netprobes or installed and managed independently from Netprobe. For most host-based monitoring, it is useful to deploy Collection Agent managed by Netprobe. For containerised environments like Kubernetes, Netprobe and Collection Agent are typically managed using Kubernetes objects. This release introduces improvements to the Collection Agent and its plugins (or Collectors) managed by a Netprobe.
  • Collection Agent configuration (collection-agent.yml) can now be managed centrally in Gateway via the Gateway Setup Editor alongside your other configuration. This removes the need to manage YAML files on the host where Collection Agent is running. Support for variables and validation reduces complexity and improves the user experience. This feature requires Gateway and Netprobe version 6.x. It is also recommended you upgrade Active Console and Gateway Setup Editor to version 6.x.
  • The lifecycle of the Collection Agent can be managed by the Netprobe, giving you more visibility and control of the Collection Agent and its plugins. Self-monitoring views and easy access to logs, errors, and configuration files from within mean you can easily diagnose any issues without needing access to host machines.
• Easily migrate AES keys for more secure password management supports private AES keys for encrypting sensitive data in configuration. When AES keys are changed, all encrypted data must be updated to use the new key. Gateway Setup Editor now supports a migration option to easily update the configuration to use the new key.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Geneos and Obcerv connectivity is the platform to take performance monitoring to the next level. With scalable architecture and data storage, it is a platform to take control of the complex IT infrastructure and application monitoring. Geneos real-time monitoring, together with ITRS Obcerv, allows you to store, collate, contextualise, and visualise your data, giving you end to end visibility for operational resilience.
  • Gateways can publish all your metrics and events to Obcerv for storage and analysis. Data filtering at with efficient data compression and scalable storage in delivers a reliable platform for operational data.
  • Netprobes can publish log data to Obcerv, so you have metrics and logs together in a single platform. This allows you to build a workflow that takes you from a real-time log monitoring view in Geneos Active Console to Log Investigation in Obcerv.
  • Active Console users can build history charts by querying the data stored in Obcerv. For more information on how can help improve your operational resilience, see use case scenarios.
• Easy access to Geneos data. For many of our customers, Geneos is a critical component of the operation landscape, so having easy access to data is important to building well-integrated workflows. We are introducing two new ways to access the real-time data in Geneos Gateways. This is in addition to the already supported publishing method to Kafka and the new ITRS Obcerv platform.
  • Gateways can publish data to an HTTP/HTTPS endpoint. This is a generic lightweight method to publish (POST) metrics and events to other systems. Filtering at Gateway lets you control what you publish to minimise downstream data requirements.
  • Gateway REST service now supports a new endpoint to request a snapshot of a dataview. This is ideal for reporting and visualisation tools to request a snapshot view of a specific dataview from .
• Kubernetes plugin can now collect metrics describing the state of namespaces, nodes, pods, and the workload resources such as deployments, daemon sets, replica sets, stateful sets, and jobs. We will continue to focus on the Kubernetes plugin in the next release to add more metrics describing the state of control plane objects such as API Server, control manager, and scheduler.

These are the highlights of this release:

• Geneos AWS plugin now supports over 20 new AWS services, including Kinesis, Lambda, SNS, VPN, Load Balancers, DynamoDB, and many more. The AWS plugin collects AWS CloudWatch metrics, logs, and events to provide unified information across your AWS resources. Data is collected with minimal configuration and Geneos entities are created dynamically as you deploy more AWS services.

• Improved Geneos plugin to monitor Azure resource logs and activity logs alongside metrics. The Azure plugin can now read log data through the Azure Event Hub in order to dynamically enable File Keyword Monitor (FKM) on the stream of data. The log data collected by the Azure plugin can also be published to other platforms such as Elasticsearch, Splunk, and ITRS Obcerv for log investigation and long-term storage. • Uptrends is an end-user experience monitoring solution for your websites, APIs, and web applications. This release enhanced the Geneos Uptrends plugin, allowing you to visualise the status of your Uptrends Real User Monitoring (RUM) data alongside your Geneos application monitoring. The integration also allows you to click through from a dataview in the Active Console to the Uptrends UI for more detailed investigations.

• Improvements to Dynamic Entities feature:

  • Allow mapping configuration at group level to simplify maintenance.
  • Dynamically create samplers like FKM and State Tracker when matching data is received.
  • Show Dynamic Mapping command is now available on dynamically created streams, making it easier to configure and maintain.

These are the highlights of this release:

• The Apache Log4j library in the Active Console, Web Dashboard, Terracotta Messaging integration, and VMware Monitor integration, has been upgraded to 2.17.1 to fix the security vulnerability in Apache Log4j (CVE-2021-44832). We recommend upgrading to the latest version Geneos 5.12.0 or newer.
• FKM plugin now supports publishing streams from Windows Events (NT events) through the Publisher plugin to external log storage systems such as Elasticsearch, Splunk, and ITRS Obcerv.
• Updated CorvilNet integration (genos-cnpi) to support HTTPS and configurable heartbeat intervals.
• JMX plugin now supports monitoring JMX Server with registry SSL enabled.
• Netprobe memory utilisation improvements related to the Dynamic Entities.

These are the highlights of this release:

• The Apache Log4j library in the Active Console, Web Dashboard, Terracotta Messaging integration, and VMware Monitor integration, has been upgraded to 2.17.0 to fix the security vulnerability in Apache Log4j (CVE-2021-45105). We recommend upgrading to the latest version Geneos 5.11.3 or newer.
• The Apache Log4j library in the Active Console, Web Dashboard, Terracotta Messaging integration, and VMware Monitor integration, has been upgraded to 2.16.0 to fix the security vulnerability in Apache Log4j (CVE-2021-45046). We recommend upgrading to the latest version Geneos 5.11.2 or newer.
• The Apache Log4j library in the Active Console, Web Dashboard, Terracotta Messaging integration, and VMware Monitor integration, has been upgraded to 2.15.0 to fix the security vulnerability in Apache Log4j (CVE-2021-44228). We recommend upgrading to the latest version Geneos 5.11.1 or newer.

• With the addition of the Geneos AWS Monitor plugin, you can now monitor your AWS resources in a single enterprise platform alongside your on-premise and hybrid environments. The plugin collects AWS CloudWatch metrics, logs, and events to provide unified information across your AWS resources. Data is collected with minimal configuration and Geneos entities are created dynamically as you deploy more AWS services. This is a fully supported integration to give you a single pane of glass view of your entire deployment stack. In addition, the AWS plugin can:
