Download and Setup

Overview

This page outlines the procedures to download and set up Active Console. Also, this covers the information on how to connect to other Geneos components.

Download binaries

In order to use Active Console:

  1. To download the binaries, go to Resources > Downloads > Active Console 2.
  2. To view the list of supported operating systems, see System Requirements.

  3. Unzip the file in your local machine.
  4. Open ActiveConsole.exe.
  5. Select Create a new workspace on the Select Workspace screen.
  6. Click OK.

Success: You can now access the Active Console. From here, you can start to connect to Gateways and configure your own dashboards.

The Active Console does not support cross-platform functions and operations. Importing components, such as dashboards, workspaces, list view settings, customised dataviews, and dockables, from one supported platform to another, may be successful at first. However, the import is not expected to work properly.

For macOS

When you run the Active Console macOS binary for the first time, the Active Console displays a warning message:

To resolve this:

  1. Open the Active Console folder from your local machine.
  2. Right-click ActiveConsole.app.
  3. Click Open.

Connect to a Gateway

In order to connect to Gateway, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Active Console > Workspace settings > Connections.
  2. Click the Add button in the Connections group.
  3. Provide the hostname and port of the Gateway.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Double-click the Gateway to open Gateway Setup Editor (GSE).

Success: The Gateway now appears in the Gateways dockable.

For more information on Gateway connection properties, see Gateways Dockable.

Connect to a Gateway Hub

This procedure only details the Gateway Hub setup process in Active Console:

  1. To connect to a Gateway Hub, go to Active Console> Workspace settings > Gateway Hub.
  2. In the Manual Gateway Hub Entries group, click Add.
  3. Provide the name of your Gateway Hub connection in the Connection Name field.
  4. Verify that the Rest Service URL is configured.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Note: Ensure the Gateway addresses and hostnames are added to the /etc/hosts file of your Gatewaymachine. This includes the set up of schemas for dataview in the sampler for Publishing.

For more information, see Gateway Hub.
